Virgie Gardner

May 1, 1937 - June 16, 2013

Visitation: Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. Family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 p.m.

Service: Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at Canton Lutheran Church.

Huron.  Virgie Lee Gardner, 76, formerly of the Canton-Beloit area, died Sunday, June 16, at Sanford USD Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at Canton Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.  Family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 p.m.  

          Virgie was born May 1, 1937 at Platte, SD to Jim and Eva (Enstad) Teeslink.  She attended grade school in the Black Hills and high school in Canton. 

          Virgie married Leo Gardner August 12, 1955 in Canton.  They lived in the Canton, Beloit and Fairview areas.  She owned and operated Virgie’s Café in Fairview, Newton Hills Drive-In, the Green Spade and a restaurant in Canton.  She was a caretaker for elderly in Lennox, Eagle Butte, Worthing, and Huron.  Virgie enjoyed camping, fishing, cards, dice, and having fun.

          Survivors include: sons- Ray Gardner, Inwood and Terry (Becky) Gardner, Yankton; daughters- Brenda (Keith) Gilbertson, Canton, Lori Gardner (LeRoy Anderson) Perham, MN, Lisa (Mark) Sanow, Huron, and Sara Gardner, Inwood; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters- Lu (Blaine) Olson, Hudson and Shirley Detmer, Minneapolis, MN; and brothers- Danny (Dawn) Teeslink, Sioux Falls and Kevin Teeslink, Simpsonville, NC.

          She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jane McCarty, brother, George Teeslink, sons- James and Leon Gardner, and 2 great-grandchildren, Leo and Madison.

    Lisa and Family, Thinking of you all at this time sending prayers and love to you all~ I will never forget how caring and loving Virgie was to me and my family.     Dear Lu, Blaine, Danny, Kevin, Shirley,Raymond,Terry,Brenda,Lori,Sara,Lisa I remember Virgie so well, she was a good buddy back in the day. She made the best broasted chicken down at Newton Hills drive-in. The time has gone by so fast, seems like 5 or 6 years ago. I know it is more like 50 years….. It is always so hard to lose someone you have loved for so long. You all have my deepest sympathy right now. Love, Waiva.

    Sorry for your loss, after I found out Virgie was living in Huron I kept saying I needed to go and see her
    and obviously I didn’t.
    I remember her from my mom and dad Mary and Lydell Ellis.

    So very sorry to hear of the passing of Virgie,,,,,A fun lady to be around—We just found this out and so sorry to have ot of gotten to attended the funeral…We sure enjoyed the time we spent with er at DeSmet last year camping and seeing her at the Plain,s having lunch with her Daughter—-Our sypathy goes out to all of you!!!!!!God Bless you all!!!!!
