Service: Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Canton United Methodist Church in Canton, SD

Lillian Richter, 90, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, after a brief illness.

 Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Canton United Methodist Church in Canton, SD with the Reverend Steve Ziebarth presiding. Her burial will be in the Serviceman’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell, SD following the luncheon.  Family will greet visitors Monday from 4-6 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home.

Lillian was born April 2, 1925 to William and Anna Grueneich of Monango, North Dakota.

On September 15th, 1943, she was united in marriage to Wilfred Richter. After Wilfred’s death on August 28, 1991, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD.

She was an active member of the Linwood Wesleyan Church, Bible Study programs and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary.  She worked as a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital and received an Honoree Award for her 10 years of service.  Lillian also enjoyed traveling with her friends and loved working with flowers and crafts.

Her greatest joy was being with family and friends.  Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Donald Richter, Sioux Falls, SD, Marilyn (Steve) Joyce, Sioux City IA, Kathy (Randy) Hardie, Canton, SD, Brad (Nancy) Richter Mahtomedi, MN.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Lillian is survived by one brother, Marvin (Joan) Grueneich, Ellendale ND, and one sister, Martha Bartel of Aberdeen, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Richter, three brothers, Willie, Albert, and Clarence Grueneich and one sister, Esther Iverson.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Administration and staff at Stoney Brooke Suites in Dakota Dunes, SD who provided exceptional care, companionship and spiritual support. Your kindness and thoughtfulness you showed our mother will always be remembered.

    Marilyn, So sorry about reading about your Mom. It is so hard to loose a parent as you know. So glad she kept active up until the last as my Mom did also. She passed away 3 yrs. ago on Mothers Day. I remember your Mom so well and she was always smiling and such a happy lady. Please contact me, as I’ve been trying to locate you as well as some of your other classmates have also. (chetordee@yahoo.com) Again so sorry for your loss. Just cherish those memories of all the good times together.
