Visitation: Visitation will be Tuesday, February 22nd from 2-7 p.m., family present 5-7 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. 

Service: Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 23rd at Hudson Lutheran Church.

         Lawrence Ryken, age 89, died Saturday, February 19, 2022 surrounded by his family at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.  Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 23rd at Hudson Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be Tuesday, February 22nd from 2-7 p.m., family present 5-7 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.

          Lawrence was born on December 6, 1932 in Sioux County, IA to Gilbert and Matilda (Jeep) Ryken.  He grew up in the Hudson, SD area where he also attended rural school.  He married Hilma Kruse on December 20, 1952 in Hudson, SD.  The couple lived and farmed near Hudson until moving to Canton, SD in 1988.

          In addition to farming, Lawrence also worked for Bi-State Fertilizer, Harknes Gravel, and did custom corn shelling.  After moving to Canton, he worked for the City of Canton in the Street Department for several years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, restoring old tractors, and collecting toy tractors.  He has been a lifelong member of Hudson Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and ushering.

          He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hilma; children, Duane (Marcia) Ryken, Rhonda Duncan, and Darwin (Lynette) Ryken; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; step-brothers, Jim Toft (Marilyn) and Lonnie (Paula) Toft; step-sister, Mavis Fjellanger; brother-in-law, Roger Voigt; sister-in-law, Jean Toft; along with numerous extended relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lorraine Hermanson Voigt.
