Janice Hitzemann

November 25, 1939 - January 20, 2023

Visitation: Family will greet visitors from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Service: A celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.

           Janice “Katy” Hitzemann, age 83, died Friday, January 20, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society Canton.  A celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.  Family will greet visitors from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Casual dress is requested.

          Janice was born on November 25, 1939 in Canton, SD to Lawrence and Doris (Harmon) Baldwin.  She grew up and attended school in Canton.  She married Arden Hitzemann in June of 1959 in Akron, IA.  The couple lived in Akron, IA and Sioux Falls, SD before moving to Canton, SD.  Michael, Mark, Dave, and Cindy were born to this union.

          In addition to raising her family, Janice spent 27 years at McCord’s/Adams Thermal Systems.  She was an avid collector of amber and dolls.  She also enjoyed collecting tea cups and rummaging.

Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of 63 years, Arden; sons, Michael (Joy) Hitzemann, Mark Hitzemann, and Dave Hitzemann; grandchildren, Wade (Ashley) Hitzemann, Christina Hitzemann, Jami Jo (Jamie) Hitzemann, Leonard (Melinda) Hitzemann, Derrick (Stacia) Hitzemann, Katy Ann Enboden, and Suzanne Patenode; 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Don (Margaret) Baldwin, Dale Baldwin, and Glen (Jan) Baldwin; sister, Lori (Dan) Stortroen; along with numerous extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cindy Patenode; daughters-in-law, Patty Hitzemann and Holly Hitzemann; sisters, Linda Baldwin and Nancy Rooney; and brother, Roger Baldwin.

    You have our deepest condolences , I sure enjoyed working with Katie at McCord she was a hoot, some days I think all we did was laugh. When I would run into at the store it was always a hug and laughing. She sure going to missed by so many people. Rip Katie
