Roger Iverson, age 87, died Monday, December 30, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society Canton. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10 at Springdale Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Falls, SD. Memorials may be directed to Springdale Lutheran Church.
I was born at an “early age” in Sioux Valley Hospital to Ole and Vina (Robinson) Iverson on April 12, 1932. Home was the same farm site my entire life. Prairie Grove # 18 for first eight grades. I graduated from Canton High School in 1950 and attended two years at South Dakota State College. I was selected by my “friends and neighbors” to become part of the US Army from December ‘52 to December ’54. I served as Chief Radar Operator in Battery B 554 AAA Gun Bn of the North American Air Defense at Fort McArthur California. After discharge, I returned to SDSC where I graduated with a degree in Ag Engineering in December 1958. I became a part of JD Co. in March of 1959 as an “Area Service Manager”. I traveled territories in WY, IA, NE, and SD. I accepted early retirement in 1986 and then worked part time for Valley National Bank Farm Loan Dept from 1986 to 1997. My dad passed away in October 2003 at age 106, my mother in May 2004. My responsibilities increased according to how many cats were to be fed. Springdale Lutheran Church has been home from baptism till now.
I was also a member of the Granite Threshermen’s Association, Harrisburg American Legion, Grieg Male Chorus, the South Sioux Falls Kiwanis Club, and a past member of the Harrisburg Fire Department. I enjoyed volunteering at The Banquet and collecting John Deere memorabilia.
I am survived by my cousins: Elline (Jerry) Chaon, Canton, SD, Ramona Smith, Beaverton, OR, Carol (John) Trelstad, Rochester, MN, and Eloise Pass, Duluth, MN along with numerous extended relatives and special friends.
You are missed by many already Rog!

Roger was a great man. It was an honor to know him.
Roger and I attended several John Deere Service Seminars together. The first time I met Roger was in 1960 at the Waterloo Tractor Works when we learned the insides and outsides of the 4 and 6 cylinder models of the New Generation of Power. We were John Deere Company teammates until we both retired.
Roger will be missed by many!

I have memories of the Iverson family from my days at Springdale. Vina was a Sunday school teacher and Ole was active as well. I remember Vina’s mother who lived across the street from the Harrisburg fire hall. And, also Hugh Robinson who owned a lumber yard in south Sioux Falls and has a park named after him in Harrisburg. Maybe I should say “old” Harrisburg. We saw Roger last a few years ago when we attended Springdale for worship. May the Lord bless Roger’s memory.

On behalf of the entire Trelstad family, we offer our wholehearted condolences and are so sorry to hear about the passing of Roger. My mom Carol Trelstad, Rogers cousin, always talks about the fond memories she had in growing up with Roger. Mom had recently mentioned she had not received a Christmas card from Roger and was wondering if he was ok. When our family was in Rochester, Roger always made a point to stop and see my parents when he was covering his sales territory. We will miss his gentle demeanor and wide smile he always extended to all he met.
We will not be able to attend the visitation on Sunday the 12th, however we would like to bring mom if she is able to attend to attend the memorial service in the Spring. Please advise us when the Service will be held.
We rejoice in knowing Roger is spreading his joy now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his eternal home.
Roger was a neighbor and whenever we talked he always had inspiring words and though he lived alone he had many friends. He also helped the community out.
He will be missed!

I can go back in my memories to Grandma Robinson who lived across from the old Harrisburg school and fire department. She visited my mother Goldie in our Harrisburg home and Vina and Hugh. Ole and Vina were long time members of my home church of Springdale. My Dad was Merle, the barber in Harrisburg. Vina was a Sunday school teacher. I remember the family when Springdale decided to have worship every Sunday, John Mason from Brandon was the Pastor. James W. Asp was my confirmation Pastor and Roger was active in our Luther League and I was happy to see Roger on a visit to Springdale. God bless the memory of the Iverson family.
