Visitation: A visitation, with family present, will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.

William “Bill” Peltier, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 surrounded by his family at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center Hospice Cottage.  A visitation, with family present, will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.  A private family burial will take place at a later date at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Bill was born at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on March 3, 1947 to Leonard and Irene (Edwards) Peltier.  He grew up on a dairy farm near Lake Alvin before moving south of Canton, SD.  After graduating from Canton High School in 1965, he attended trade school for auto body repair.   He worked at Jay-Shon Chevrolet before being drafted into the US Army in 1967.  After his discharge in 1969, he returned to Canton where he soon saw a pretty girl in a yellow dress walking by his yellow 1969 SS 396 Chevelle.  He soon asked Diane Hanson on a date and they were married on September 18, 1970 in Canton, SD.  Their son, Kelly, arrived soon after followed by their daughter, Sally.

Bill and Diane ran Bill’s Body Shop, later Peltier’s Collision Center, for 42 years.  After retiring, the couple enjoyed winters in Arizona.  In his spare time, Bill enjoyed racing corvettes, working in his garage, traveling, and going on cruises.  Bill cherished time spent with his family, especially teaching things to his grandchildren.  Bill belonged to the Hudson American Legion and was a long-time member of the Sioux Falls Corvette Club where he served as the Racing Governor.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane; children, Kelly (Jill) Peltier and Sally (Andy) Kaiser; grandchildren, Maxwell Peltier, Katherine Peltier, and Addyson Tow; brother, Don Peltier; sister, Lorraine (Wayne) Erdman; sister-in-law, Sabina Peltier; along with numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Dale; sister, Yvonne Gardner; and in-laws, George and Doris Hanson.
