Terry Lee Waite, 80, died Thursday, February 5, 2026, surrounded by his family at Good Samaritan Society in Canton, SD. A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be at 3PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River, NE. Terry’s family will receive friends from 1:30PM until the start of the service. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

        Terry was born on December 21, 1945 near Watertown, SD to Ross and Betty (Zundel) Waite.  He graduated from Wood River High School in 1964.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy.  After his discharge from the Navy, Terry married Carol Monthey.  Tracey and Tyler were born to this union.  In 1971, Terry married Janice Carr.  Kevin, Travis and Jodi were born to this union.

Terry loved driving truck.  This career brought him to 49 states and several areas of Canada.  He retired from trucking in 2019 due to declining health.

        When he was not trucking, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, rodeo, and Nebraska football.  He also cherished time spent with his family.

        Terry is survived by his children, Teresa Monthey, Tracey Waite, Tyler (Jackie) Waite, Kevin (Michelle) Waite, Travis (Lynn) Waite, and Jodi Waite; grandchildren, Breeauna Barton, Birgen (Brock) Erickson, Bailie Barton (Makenzie Parish), Austin (Abbi) Waite, Elena Waite (Fernando Lopez), Callie Waite, Samuel (Lynne) Waite, Michael (Megan) Waite, Adam (Shannon) Waite, Sidney Waite, Sarah (Will) Rosno, and Ian Waite; 9 great-grandchildren, along with 2 due soon; brother, Larry (Kathy) Waite; sisters, Linda Wiese, Donna (Russell) Smith, and Barbara (Jim) Wiltgen; along with numerous extended relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Rick Wiese; and sister, Jane Waite.
