Steve was born March 28, 1963 to Russell and Phyllis (Boyum) Hammond. He graduated from Canton High School in 1981. After high school Steve worked in sales for many years in a variety of areas.

Steve was an avid sports fan. Anyone that knew Steve knew he loved all sports.  He was a big fan of the New England Patriots, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the New York Mets. He also greatly enjoyed attending the games of all his friends’ kids. He was always right along their parents in the stands or bleachers cheering them on.  He also loved to play amateur baseball and did so for several years. He also coached youth teener baseball. Steve had the gift of gab and could remember every sports statistic about his favorite teams. He was a walking sports encyclopedia. Steve also loved people and loved to visit.   He could remember the names and life stories of everyone he ever met. Once you met Steve, you were a friend to him and he would always remember you. Steve loved playing cards especially Pitch and always enjoyed the Saturday and Sunday card games with the “Sandlot”.

Steve is survived by his aunt Judy (Wayne) Groeneweg; several cousins, and the group of close friends affectionately known as the “Sandlot” Bully, Hans, Big Dad, Mel, Fuzz, Jas, Smiley and Fabs. He was preceded in death by his parents; Russell and Phyllis; and brother Terry.

Dear, sweet and wonderful Steve! My heart aches to hear that you have left us! Who am I going to sit by at State Amateur Baseball ⚾️ games now and root on “The Gang”? You were always so good to do that with me and I appreciate all the knowledge shared, laughs had and the memories made. Now you can watch every game in every sport any and all the time. Thank you for your friendship! But now it’s time for you to be well again and spend all the time that you’re not watching sports with your parents and your brother. Oh, the celebration they must have had when you arrived?!?! “I Can Only Imagine”! You will be missed by many because you were loved by so many!
