Fortunately, Tom Sinning posted the sad news of Shirley’s death on FB. I was grateful for that, because otherwise I might have missed it. This is what I posted on FB, but realize I am not FB Friends with the Fox “children”, so posting it here. Deep condolences to Shirley’s family! Deep sadness in this loss, as well, I am smiling. I am thinking that wherever, I can see/hear the laughter of dear friends of many decades: Bunkers, Foxs, and Rikansruds. So grateful for the times over the past number of years, I have had the fun of being the kid in the room when mom & Shirley got together, and talked and laughed endlessly. We even had a slumber party. I crashed and those two girls kept talking into the wee hours. Such fond memories of life long family friends! In reading the obituary, I regret that I will not be able to represent the Rikansrud family next week at Shirley’s Mass, as I will be out of the country 4/17-29. We will be with you in spirit!

I am so proud to call Shirley my cousin! I will miss her phone calls and her always positive outlook on life. We had a few trips together and a few visits, but not nearly enough. She always caught me up on all her children. She was so proud of you all. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. I know she will be greatly missed.

    Dear family,
Your mother was a dear friend of my mother Lorraine Christensen Unruh. They were classmates in Freeman and Mom always referred to Shirley as a “best” friend. Mom was one of your mother’s bridesmaids in your her wedding and your mother had to get special compensation to have Mom in her wedding party as my mother was not Catholic. That always meant so much to my mother. I had the privilege of meeting your mother on several occasions, including at late-in-life visits with my mother before her passing five years ago. It was touching to hear them reminisce about their many special times together. Theirs was a life-long friendship that I think both of them cherished. Your mother was so lovely and so proud of her beautiful family. I know she will be greatly missed. You have my deepest sympathy.
    Sincerely,
    Julie Unruh Jarrell
