Sandra “Sandy” Thorsby, age 70, died Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Sanford USD Medical Center.  Sandy’s wish was for no services to be held.

Sandra Kay Van Buskirk was born on July 18, 1953 to Winnie (Hulleman) and Vernon Van Buskirk in Hawarden, IA.  The family moved to Canton, SD in 1967.  She graduated from Canton High School in 1971.  She later attended Killian College.  She married David Edwin Thorsby on June 11, 1976.

Sandy spent 17 years of her life working at Keystone Treatment Center as a dedicated counselor.  Through the years, she formed strong friendships with her co-workers and the innumerable clients she helped along their roads to recovery.  In her spare time, Sandy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and shopping trips with her dear friend, Mel.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, David of Canton, SD; children, Kari (Dean) Hargus of Brooking, SD, and David S. Thorsby of Sioux Falls, SD;  grandchildren, Sid Thorsby (Tatum Nott) of Colorado Springs, CO, Hannah (Gerrod) Dannen of Harrisburg, SD, and Emma Snyder (Alex McDermott) of Beresford, SD; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Duane (Marissa) Van Buskirk of Beaverton, OR and Bruce (Lori) Van Buskirk of Beresford, SD; along with numerous extended relatives and friends.
