Ruby Veldkamp

Visitation: Visitation, with family present, will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the school.

Service: Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at Canton High School.

Veldkamp paperRuby Veldkamp, age 84, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Canton Good Samaritan Center.  Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at Canton High School.  Visitation, with family present, will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the school.

          Ruby was born on October 30, 1931 in Sioux County, IA to Gerrit and Florence (Popma) Kots.   She attended school in Maurice, IA.  She professed to walk with the Lord at a young age.   She married Peter Veldkamp on November 27, 1951 in Canton, SD.  The couple lived in Canton and Beaver Creek, MN before returning to Canton in 1966.  Peter died in 2000.

          Ruby was a farmer’s wife and mother.  She enjoyed crocheting, writing letters, and emailing.

Ruby is survived by her children, Patsy Layman, Banning, CA, Delbert (Brenda)Veldkamp, Canton, SD, David (Diane) Veldkamp, Columbus, NE, Paul (Juli) Veldkamp, Wayne, NE, and Sadie (Jay) Heetland, Lincoln, MO; sister, Goldie (Max) Bowman, Elgin, NE; sister-in-law, Adrianna Kots; brothers-in-law, Ted Coleman, Don Jones, and George Hearick; 12 grandchildren;  4 great-grandchildren; along with numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; daughter, Twyla; brothers, James, George, and Hubert; and sisters, Ethel, Esther, Pearl, Rose, Daisy, Violet (infant).
