Service: Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5 at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory in Aberdeen, SD with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Canton, SD- Rita Gayle Andree-Thompson, age 72, died Friday, January 31,2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5 at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory in Aberdeen, SD with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Rita was born on September 27, 1941 in Redding, CA to John Carl and Elizabeth (Krick) Kuntz. They moved back to the farm in September 1946.  She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1959.  She then attended The School of Commerce for 1 year.  She was united in marriage to Sandy (Saniford) Dale Andree on June 25, 1960.  He died in February of 1979.  She was a stay at home mother until 1978.   She then worked for Control Data up until it closed in 1988.

After the closure of Control Data, she attended college and in 1990 moved to Sioux Falls and began working at John Morrell’s.  While in Sioux Falls, she met Gwen “Tom” Thompson.  They were married on August 28, 2002 at Fort Patrick AFB in Florida.  She retired due to health issues in the early 2000’s.  She was an avid bowler and also loved to hunt and fish.

Rita is survived by her husband, Gwen “Tom”, Canton, SD; sons-  Saniford “Bud” (Jennifer)Dale Andree Jr., Melbourne, FL, John-Paul Andree, Canton, SD, and Trent Dale Andree,  Aberdeen, SD; daughter, Shawn (Dana) Hermansen, Aberdeen, SD; step-children- Rob, Amy, Nathan, and  Jason Thompson; brothers, Donald (Midge) Kuntz and Robert Kuntz all of Aberdeen, SD; sister Carol Daly; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Sandy.
