Visitation: Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m., family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

Service: Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Springdale Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Falls, SD.

Richard Strand Pic         Richard “Richie” Strand, Jr., age 45, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017 the result of a motor vehicle accident near Canton.  Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Springdale Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Falls, SD.  Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m., family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

          Richie was born on February 28, 1972 in Sioux Falls, SD to Richard and Carol (Heath) Strand.  He grew up in the Canton and attended Canton Schools.  He worked various jobs but especially enjoyed cooking at the Union Gospel Mission.  He had a strong faith, a big heart, and loved music.  He treasured his time with family, especially his kids and granddaughter.

          Richie is survived by his mother, Carol (Jeff) Anderberg, Canton, SD; his children, Cara Strand, Heath Strand both of Sioux Falls and Desirae (Brian) Johnson and their daughter, Brailey, Alcester, SD; sister, Mandy Anderberg, Canton; niece, Frankie; nephew, Jett; grandmother, Donna Koenig;  along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.   He was preceded in death by his father, Richard and his grandparents, Harvey Strand, and Carroll and Hjordis Heath.

    I hadn’t seen or talked to Richie in almost 25 years, but I always remembered him as someone that was easily liked and a great guy to be around. When I learned of his death it was very shocking and even though I hadn’t seen him in years something just kind of sank in that moment. Richie will truly be missed. May his family find peace and healing in the Lord. My family’s prayers go out to yours….
