Service: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD followed by a noon burial at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. 

Norman Hanawalt, age 92, died Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Good Samaritan Society Canton.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD followed by a noon burial at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.

            Norman was born on February 15, 1934 in Cleveland, OH to Wilbur and Thelma (Summers) Hanawalt.  After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy on July 29, 1954. He served aboard the USS Regulus (AF-57).  After reenlisting in May of 1958, he was stationed in Japan. He was discharged to the naval reserve in May of 1962.  During his Naval service he earned the national defense medal and the good conduct medal.   He also did missionary work for many years.  Norman lived in Sioux Falls before becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society Canton.
