Service: Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Canton Lutheran Church with burial at Eden Cemetery near Hudson. A luncheon at Hudson Lutheran Church, Hudson, SD will follow the burial.
Hudson. Norma Crawford, 90, formerly of Canton, passed away Tuesday, May 9th, 2016 at Sanford Canton Inwood Hospital, Canton, SD. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Canton Lutheran Church with burial at Eden Cemetery near Hudson. Norma Kittelson Crawford was born January 22, 1927, to Oliver and Hilda (Njos) Kittelson on a farm in Minnehaha County, SD. She was baptized at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church near Colton, SD and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, Parker, SD. She attended schools in Hawarden, IA, Parker, SD and graduated from Canton High School in 1944. Following graduation she worked at the Courthouse in Canton on the Ration Board and for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She retired from Northwestern Bell in 1984. She married Cecil Crawford on January 24, 1947. Most of their married life was spent farming; the first seven years near Parker and in 1960 they moved to a farm near Hudson, SD where they resided until 1987, when they moved into Canton. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Hudson American Legion Auxiliary, Canton Palathene Club and Canton Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and Altar Guild. Norma and her family were former active members of Hudson Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Parker. At the time of her death, Norma was a resident of Hudson Care and Rehab Center.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Cecil, her parents, 3 brothers; Kenneth, Clayton and Harvey, 4 sisters; Leona Kittelson, Beatrice Husman, Luella Larson and Lois Schulte.
Norma is survived by her children Ronald (Julie) Crawford of Fenton, MO, David (Trudy) Crawford of Spearfish, SD, Karen (Robert) Evanson of Hudson and James (Janet) Crawford of Waterloo, IL, her 10 grandchildren: Maggie (Crawford) Ramsay, Vince Crawford, Matthew Crawford, Rachel Crawford, Jennifer (Evanson) Lee, Laurie (Evanson) Karlson, Judson Evanson, Megan Crawford, Kristin Crawford, Erica Crawford, 8 great- grandchildren, one sister Hazel Eggleston, and one brother, Glen Kittelson.
Norma loved being a mother and grandmother, and being a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She loved the beauty of the outdoors and the change of seasons. She enjoyed painting, reading and family gatherings, especially at Christmas.
