Melvina Aasheim

Visitation: Visitation will be at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

Service: Melvina’s funeral service will be held at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m.

Melvina Coralin (Groon) Aasheim was born to John Henry and Sophia Marie (Fickbohm) Groon on August 9, 1912 near Spink, SD. She died October 22, 2011 at the Canton Good Samaritan Center.  Melvina’s funeral service will be held at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m.  Visitation will be at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
 Melvina was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and joined Lands Lutheran Church following her marriage to Henry on June 11, 1938. She was very active in her church delighting in teaching Sunday school and participating in Bible studies and Ladies Aid.
 Melvina’s life revolved around her family.   She considered herself the luckiest and richest woman on earth to have been blessed with such a large family.  She loved to bake – her children fondly remember there wasn’t a day they came home from school when there wasn’t something freshly baked waiting for them. Her beautiful flower gardens were also a source of great joy and satisfaction.
 Those left to cherish her memory include four sons: Ronald, Lynn (Martha), Curtis (Ione), Dean (Annette) all of Canton; three daughters: Lavonne (Darwin) Dahl, Canton; Delma (Derald) Pedersen, Apple Valley, MN; Cheryl (Ronald) Haden, Lytton, IA; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters:  Alvera (Richard) Rosgaard, Elaine (Albert) Olsen; four sisters-in-law: Irene (Emil) Groon, Jean (Gerald) Groon, Lenore (Gidvert) Monen and  Lillian (Kermit) Hansen.
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents; two sisters: Bernice Johnson and Darlene Klostergaard; and three brothers: Emil, Herbert and Gerald Groon.
