Margaret Baldwin, age 81, died Friday, November 3, 2023 surrounded by her family at Good Samaritan Society Canton. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Canton, SD. Margaret was born on July 18, 1942 on the family farm near Canton, SD. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Canton High School in 1960. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Chrysostom Catholic Church in Canton, SD. She married Donald Baldwin on July 6, 1963 at St. Chrysostom Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Canton and were blessed with 4 daughters. Margaret had been of a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Canton since 2021. She enjoyed her time there and loved interacting with both her fellow residents and the caring staff.
In addition to raising her children, she had worked at the bank, babysat, and drove school bus during her life. Margaret was a devote catholic who was very active in both the St. Chrysostom and later the St. Dominic parishes. Her church family was important to her and she rarely missed a service or church function. She was a past president of the Altar Society and also organized countless funeral lunches.
Margaret was a strong-willed Norwegian who loved her family deeply. Margaret also loved to craft, camp, chit chat, and spend time with family. She will be remembered for the numerous blankets, afghans, flannels, and crafts she made for friends, family, and strangers. In addition, she was a 40 years member of the Legion Auxiliary. Most importantly, she was a mom to not only her girls but also numerous others until the day she died.
Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of 60 years, Donald; daughters, Mary (Terry) Graslie, MaDonna Baldwin, Elizabeth Baldwin, and Julie (Nathan) Boor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arden Hitzmann, Dan Rooney, Glen (Jan) Baldwin, and Lori (Dan) Stortroen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant child; infant son, Donnie; brother and sister-in-law, Merlyn (Judy) Oliver; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janice Hitzmann, Roger Baldwin, Nancy Rooney, Dale Baldwin, and Linda Baldwin; life-long friend, Denny Reiners; and precious dog, Bella.

Margaret was a very gregarious person and a wonderful friend to many people. May God bless her memory and her family in the coming days.
