Leonard Donald De Smet

Visitation: Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service.

Service: Memorial services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Canton, SD.

          Leonard Donald De Smet, age 73, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in Sioux Falls, SD.  Memorial services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Canton, SD.  Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service.

          Leonard was born on August 2, 1948 in Hawarden, IA to Donald and Emma (Miller) De Smet.  He grew up and attended school in Hudson, SD.  He worked at Canton Tile Plant until becoming disabled due to a motorcycle accident in 1974.  He then attended Sioux Vocational, Achieve and was currently enrolled at Lifescape.  Leonard loved hunting, especially doves, fishing, sketching, drawing and nice cars.

          Grateful for sharing his life are his siblings: Ronald De Smet, Raymond (Kathy) De Smet, Mary (Hank) Brinkman, and Ruth (Dr. Steven) Feeney; along with several nieces, nephews and extended relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty McNamara; and sister-in-law, Barb De Smet.

I had the pleasure of working at Mariana for several years where i got to know Leonard, he truly was a beautiful Soul, full of wit and humor. God Bless and keep him safe in the arms of Jesus.     I had the honor of working with Leonard for many years at Mariana. He could always put a smile on your face and make you laugh even when you were feeling down. He made you feel like you were a million bucks. i enjoyed sitting with him doing puzzles and many conversations. He will be greatly missed. my condolences to his family.
