Laura Bensen

March 4, 1975 - May 21, 2026

Service: A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. 

Laura Bensen, age 51, died peacefully Thursday, May 21, 2026 surrounded by her family at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.  A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.

Laura was born on March 4, 1975 in Watertown, SD to Dale and Ruth (Aschoff) McAthie.  She lived in Sioux Falls until moving to Canton in 1980.  She attended school in Canton, graduating from Canton High School in 1993.  She worked the majority of her life at Adams Thermal.  She most recently worked as a personal shopper at Walmart.

Laura enjoyed darts, music and concerts, camping, being outdoors, thrifting, and motorcycles.  She also was interested in tiny homes and the RV lifestyle.  She will be remembered for her easy going, laid-back personality and the deep love she had for her family, especially her two sons.

Laura is survived by her sons, Jackson McAthie (Autumn) and Braxtin Hupke; parents, Ruth and Dale McAthie; brothers, Adam (Angie) McAthie, Jon (Jena) McAthie, and Daniel McAthie; sisters, Emily McAthie and Mary McAthie; boyfriend, Jaymie Blair; along with numerous extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her son, Anton.
