Visitation: Public visitation will be Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.

Service: Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD.

John Sorum paper     John A. Sorum, age 85, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his home.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD.  Public visitation will be Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Gideons International.

          John was born on March 13, 1932, to Asaf J. and Hazel (Nelson) Sorum on his home place where he lived up until he died.

          He attended Fairview Center District #83 and graduated from Canton High School in 1950.  He served in the United States Army from May 26, 1953 to April 19, 1955.  He married Louise Peterson on June 21, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD.

          He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church.  He was active in the church council, church choir, township board, school board and Hudson American Legion.  Faith and family were very important in John’s life.

          John was preceded in death by his wife Louise, parents, two sisters, one brother, and one nephew.  Grateful for having shared his life are his children:  Glenda Sorum, Sioux Falls, SD; Jean (Joel) Rosgaard, Rock Valley, IA; Karen E. (Mark) Gubbrud, Alcester, SD; John E. Sorum, Fairview, SD; and Jerry (Rebecca) Sorum, Canton, SD; grandchildren:  William, Anne and Sarah Rosgaard and Aaron, Caleb and Haley Sorum; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, and friends.
