James Edward Nolet was born on November 27, 1949, to George and Helen (Fisher) Nolet in Bennington, VT. He passed away from pulmonary fibrosis on August 7, 2014 at the VA hospital in Sioux Falls.

At age 17, Jim enlisted in the US Navy. His sense of adventure led him to explore and work in Arizona and California before returning to Vermont.  Jim’s love of the outdoors developed early, hiking and hunting in his beloved mountains, fishing, and working 32 years for the SD GFP at Newton Hills State Park.

On October 7, 1978, Jim became “dad” to Lezlie and Kathy Jo when he married Terri (Edwards) Hammer.  Travel was a big part of their life together with the highlight being a journey to Alaska in 2004.

“Grandpa” was a man “who could fix anything”, played the guitar/mandolin, loved country music, TV game shows, fishing, and traveling. He was especially proud of his granddaughters and their accomplishments.

Jim is survived by his wife-Terri; daughters- Lezlie (Joe) Larsen and Kathy Anderson; granddaughters- Karlie Hammer (Tye VanderVorst), Alaina Hammer and Merrick Anderson; sister-Mary (Garfield) Gardner; brothers-Robert Nolet and Rick Genier; mother-in-law-Olive Edwards; and his beloved Scottie, Max.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and sister-Elizabeth Warren.
