James Carter Sage Jr. passed away on May 9, 2026, at Lacey Post Acute and Rehabilitation in Lacey, Washington.
James was born on April 15, 1936, in Wellington, Ohio, to James Carter Sage Sr. and Pearl Youngless. He lived in Ohio until joining the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he was deployed to Korea, where he fought bravely until being wounded in action and sent to Hawaii for treatment. For his sacrifice and service, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged after completing his commitment to the Marine Corps.
After his military service, James moved to California, where he met and married the love of his life, Diana Dann, in 1966. Together they welcomed their son, Gregory James Sage. Later, the family moved to Canton, South Dakota, where they welcomed their daughter, Laura Diane Sage, four and a half years later.
Another move followed when James transferred to El Paso, Texas, where he worked in Mexico as a plant manager for Coil Craft Corporation. After leaving Coil Craft, he pursued a successful career in real estate, from which he eventually retired. Texas remained his home for more than 40 years until he moved to Washington in 2024 to be closer to his daughter Laura.
James deeply loved spending time with his family, traveling, and supporting his children in their many hobbies and interests. He especially enjoyed traveling around the country with Laura to horse shows and even rode horses himself. He also cherished time spent with Gregory working on cars and attending races together.
In his later years, James moved in with Laura, who lovingly cared for him and his beloved dogs. His family and friends were blessed by his kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters; his beloved wife, Diana; and his son, Gregory.
