Visitation: Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

Service: Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD.

Nelson crop           Helen Elaine (Paulson) Nelson, age 78, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Sanford Canton-Inwood Hospital. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

           Helen was born to Herman and Edna (Peterson) Paulson on May 31, 1939 in Hudson, SD.  She attended Moe District #22 and Augustana Academy.   She married Carroll (Kelly) Nelson on September 12, 1958.  To this union, 4 children were born.

          Helen worked 43 years in the Lincoln County courthouse, first in the Treasurer’s office, then she was Deputy Auditor, and the last 33 years as Lincoln County Auditor.  Helen enjoyed traveling to places like California by Amtrak, New York, Arizona and Hawaii.  Helen also enjoyed many road trips antiquing with her friends Liz, Dorothy, and Carolyn.  Helen was the navigator and it wasn’t about the “FIND”, it was about the “TIME” with her friends she cherished most.  Helen also enjoyed bowling for many years and researching family history.  Most of all she enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

          She is survived by her children, Mark (Rose) Nelson, Fairview, Diane (Jeff) Pick, Sioux Falls, Scott Nelson, Canton, and Lori (Jerry) Stoltenburg, Canton; siblings, Paul (Eileen) Paulson, Donna (Robert) Fetters, Louise (Ken) Oien, Donald Paulson, and Harlan (June) Paulson; grandchildren, Alphonse (Virginia), Sophia, Athena, Jr., Wayne, Austin, Tiffany, Andrea, Cassandra, Mason, Kristin, and Amy;  great-grandchildren, Violet, Jedidiah, Trinity, Trina, Rylee, Kayden, Sheveigh, Jackson, Matthew, Crixsus, and Anthony; along with numerous other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

    Melvin, Benton and I send our love and thoughts to our family in South Dakota at the loss of my favorite aunt. So many good memories of coffee, cards and conversation at her table. She will be missed.

    So sorry to hear about your Mother, The time i spent with her was wonderful. My friend Glen had cut her tree down a few years back, We had driven by to see the different it had made, she was outside and we had a nice Visit. She a lady of many talents. May God Bless you all of you.

    Loved seeing Aunt Helen & family whenever I was in South Dakota. She was a fun, kind, nice person. I remember a family dinner at her house with tons of kids tearing around her house & she didn’t mind😀I loved that about her. I know she will be missed.

    To my cousins I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. She was such a great person & had a good sense of humor. I will also always cherish the times I got to see her. I remember the one time I was home & mom & I were at the house visiting, she showed me how to make Lefse!! We had such a fun time!! Aunt Helen you will be missed greatly!!
