Gordon Severson

Visitation: Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

Service: Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD with burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery Canton, SD.

Gordon Severson, age 80, passed away unexpectedly Saturday,  July 16, 2011 at his home.  Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD with burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery Canton, SD.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.
Gordon was born at home on July 21, 1930 to Martin and Gertie Severson in Canton, SD.  He was baptized and confirmed at Canton Lutheran Church.  He attended school in Canton and graduated from Canton High School.
 From 1952 to 1954 he served in the Marines.  He was stationed in Santa Anna, CA and served  in the Korean War for 6 months. 
 On June 11, 1952 he married Elsie Aasheim at Lands Lutheran Church.  He worked in Canton for a year at Skyberg Chevrolet.  They moved to Platte, SD where he owned and operated Severson Service for 42 years.  They moved back to Canton in 1996.  He enjoyed his family and giving people a helping hand. 
 He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elsie; sons, Mark (Tammy), Sioux Falls, SD, and Howard (Cindi) and Robert (Jan) all of Platte, SD;  son-in-law, Gary Omdahl, Sioux Falls, SD; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Evelyn) Platte, SD and Paul (Karen), Canton, SD;  and sisters, Mavis Fossum and Dorothy McKenney all of Canton, SD.
 He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy on February 27, 2011 and great-grandson Linden Jensen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lands Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

    Elsie and family, Words can not explain how sorry I am for all of you. Gordon was a wonderful man with a big heart. I am very thankful for having the opportunity to know him. He will be missed by many friends.
