Geraldine Verley, age 96 years and 7 months, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Canton Lutheran Church, Canton, SD. Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Canton Lutheran Church or the Canton Ministerial Association.
Geraldine (Gerry) was born in Castlewood, SD on July 3, 1929 to Leon and Shirley (Rounds) Calvert. (Gerry was always told that she was almost a firecracker). Gerry attended high school in Florida and Castlewood and graduated from Castlewood, SD High School. Gerry married the love of her life, Lloyd Verley from Davis, SD on March 1, 1949 in Luverne, MN.
Gerry and Lloyd moved to Canton, SD in 1954 with their oldest son, Doug, who was born in 1952 in Brookings, SD. Two years later their second son, David was born in Canton, SD. Gerry and Lloyd provided a loving and nurturing home for their two sons. Gerry worked part time as a house cleaner and a furniture refinisher.
Gerry was an active member of Canton Lutheran Church. She loved her church and provided help whenever she could over the years.
Geraldine is survived by two sons, Doug (Julie) Verley of Canton, SD; David (Dianna) Verley of Owatonna, MN; five grandchildren, Laura (Steve) Blankenship, Rachel Verley, Brian (Megan) Verley, Kyle (Valerie) Verley, and Scott (Carly) Verley; nine great grandchildren, Kayden (Izabel) Verley, Katherine Willams, Weston Verley, Ellis Verley, Gavin Blankenship, Oliver Verley, Jasper Verley, Quinn Verley, and Crew Verley.
Preceding Geraldine in death was her husband, Lloyd, of 63 years, her parents, and her four sisters, Welva, Jean, Donna, and Shirley.
