Service: Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church, Canton, SD.

George Lems, age 75, died Wednesday, June 2, 2021 under hospice care at his home.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church, Canton, SD.  Visitation will be Friday, June 11 from 2-7 p.m., family present from 5-7 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.  www.andersonandsonsfh.com

        George was born on July 11, 1945 in Rock Valley, IA to Paul and Emma (Cannegieter) Lems.  He lived in Rock Valley until moving to Beloit, IA around age 6.  He married Sharon Patterson on Jan 3, 1963.  Jeff, Dave, and Angie were born to this union.  George worked for Jerke Construction, J & K Bridge Co. and himself running heavy equipment.

        George was a man of his word who enjoyed helping people in need, tinkering in his shop, fishing, socializing with friends, and riding his motorcycle.  He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

        George is survived by his children, Jeff (Mindy) Lems, Springfield, MO, Dave (Erin) Lems, Spearfish, SD, and Angie (David) Jennings, Canton, SD; grandchildren: Bridgett (Josh) Moree, Tanya (Derrick) Evens, Jonathan (Britney) Lems, Dakota Lems, Ciara (Micah) Hoogendoorn, Colton Hage, Madison Hage, Mya Hage, Kristen Jennings, and Brian Jennings; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Jan) Lems, Clarence (Alice) Lems, and Gerald (Cheryl) Lems; sisters, Emma DeJong, Hilda (Berwyn) Krommendyke, and Ruth (Chuck) Oldenkamp; along with numerous extended family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Guy Richard Lems; great-grandson, Jordan Jennings; sisters, Grace Dykstra, Marguerite Moen, and Donna Whitcomb; and brothers, John and Bert Lems.
