Gary Thies, age 63, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. Family will greet visitors Saturday, March 11 from noon to 2 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.
My sympathy to the family and friends of Gary. He was my neighbor growing up. He gave me his Argus Leader paper route about 50 years ago. I remember the sales job he made to my parents. He said it would teach me to manage money and deal with people. I’ll never forget what he said. I’ve been doing that ever since. Sad to here the news. I will always remember him.
This is very sad news. I always enjoyed Gary’s sense of humor. He got me in trouble more than once with Ms Hartsook in psychology class with his silliness! I still tell the stories about how he would trick me into believing outrageous things. I had finally made up my mind not to fall for his stories — then he tells me his new glasses turned into sunglasses whenever he went into the sun. THIS time I had made a bet (small) with him. He took his glasses off and placed them on the window’s ledge — in the sun — I LOST! My prayers to the family. He was one of a kind!
