Elaine was born on August 15, 1928 in Union County, SD to Henry and Sophie (Fickbohm) Groon. She was united in marriage to Albert T Olsen on October 4, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed near Fairview SD until moving to Canton in 1988. Elaine will be long remembered for her passion for quilting, sewing, coffee and conversation, but most of all for her joy and commitment to children. She dedicated many years to caring for children in her home. She was a faithful servant at Moe Parish and later a member at Canton Lutheran Church.

Those left behind cherishing her memory include her six children and their spouses: Linda (Robert) Kayser, Ankeny, IA; Arlyn (Cheryl) Olsen, Sioux Falls, SD; Daryl (Nancy) Olsen, Audubon, IA; David (Leota) Olsen, Fairview, SD; Keith (Holly) Olsen, Worthing, SD; Susan (Daryl) Eichacker, Sioux Falls, SD; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren,  sister-in-law, Irene Groon, Arlington, SD and Jean Groon, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Albert, her parents, 3 brothers (Emil, Herb, and Gerald)  and 4 sisters (Berniece, Melvina, Alvera, Darlene), 2 infant sons, 1 infant daughter, and an infant granddaughter.

Memorials will be directed by the family as Elaine would have wished.

What a special and caring person. My heart goes out to the whole family. I loved sharing recipes with her. We had fun with all the material too.. Our trip to take our Norwegian relatives to Seattle and over to the Pacific Ocean and thru the Redwoods, all so special. I’m sure Albert and dad were waiting to greet her. I know she will be missed here on Earth but now there is another special angel watching over all her family just as she did here on earth. My love to each one of you.

Sorry to hear about Elaine’s death. When our family lived near Hurley, SD, we were close friends of Bernie and Odell Johnson. Mardell was in my class and Merlynn was in my sister Vyona’s class. lepta was my student in middle school in Lennox. Daryl and Nancy’s daughter married Dan Hoffman whose dad Harvey is my cousin. I was at their wedding.

God Speed Aunt Elaine. You will be missed by many but welcomed by so many others at the Gate of Heaven. You had a quiet but strong resolve and I admired you for those South Dakota qualities. Love and Hugs
