Service: Visitation will be on Thursday, January 29 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Family will be present from 5-7 pm.
Donald Joel Cameron, 71, of Canton, SD, formerly of Dundalk, MD, died in Omaha, NE after a lengthy illness on January 25, 2026. He was known as ‘Poppy’ to his children and grandkids.
He was born in Flushing, NY on November 18, 1954, to Dorothy and James, and later also raised by stepfather Charles Close. Don graduated from Dundalk High School in 1973 and went on to work multiple places including Lockheed Martin and Bethlehem Steel.
He is survived by his daughters: Nikki (Mike) Rhode of Canton, SD and Sommer Cameron of Spencer, IA; his six grandchildren: Austin, Caleb, Cameron, Noah, Marin and Genesis; his siblings: Bruce (Barbara) Cameron, Willa Fisher, and Robert (Debbi) Close; and his many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by parents: Dorothy and Charles Close, James Cameron, and brother-in-law: Charles Fisher.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 29 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Family will be present from 5-7 pm.

Nikki and family- I am so sorry about your dad! I always enjoyed seeing him on the patio when I was out mowing and getting to visit a tiny bit! He was a very nice person and will be missed by many! You’re all in our prayers!
