Dianne Grayson, age 81, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.  Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Canton United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be Tuesday, April 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.

Dianne was born on June 29, 1941 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD to Chester and Goldie (Schliemann) Hill.  The family lived in Sioux Falls until moving to Worthing, SD in 1947.  She attended Worthing High School graduating as valedictorian of her class of 5.  She married Roy Grayson on December 5, 1959 in Canton, SD.  The couple made their home on the Grayson family farm by Worthing for 59 years. It was here they raised their two daughters, Karla and Kim.  The couple moved to Lennox, SD in the fall of 2018.

Dianne worked in the Dime Store in Canton and spent 20 years at Haisch Pharmacy in Canton.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, reading, playing cards, gardening, mowing, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.  She also played the accordion with four other women in an accordion band called the “Note-ables”.

Dianne and Roy enjoyed family camping trips, riding bike trails, going for a “drive” and volunteering.  In 1994, they worked the Jimmy Carter Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build in Eagle Butte, SD.  For two summers they worked in Custer State Park from May through the Buffalo Roundup in October.

Dianne’s life touched seven generations being the only great-granddaughter, only paternal and maternal granddaughter, only daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Dianne is survived by her husband of 63 years, Roy; daughters, Karla Grayson and Kim (Todd) Sterrett; grandchildren, Matthew Sterrett and Cassandra (Daniel) Matlon; great-grandchildren, Liliana and Josephine Matlon; brother, Dale (Ardell) Hill; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

She had a loving family, good friends, and more than she needed.  She was thankful to God for giving her a good life.

Thank you Kim for sending me a note about your mom‘s passing. Bob and I usually would go to the Black Hills every summer and would stop to visit your parents coming or going. We did get to their Canton home at least once that I recall. And then of course, Covid sort of changed all of our lifestyles for a few years.
Bob passed away March 22, 2023 here in Arizona at home under care of hospice. He had chronic kidney disease which was the cause of the decline of his health. He was 87 years old. We moved to Mesa Arizona, November 2021 permanently. We are in a resort park. We have a daughter that lives in Phoenix, which is about 30 minutes away.
We enjoyed knowing your parents, even after our adventures at Custer State Park, where we met. Your mom would usually make a meal for us when we stopped on our way back to Sioux City.
My sympathy to you, your dad and sister and families. Sincerely, Jan Burg.
