Darwin Mundahl

          Darwin DeWayne Mundahl, age 68, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Sanford USD Medical Center surrounded by his family.  Memorial services will begin at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 19 at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD.  Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service.

          Darwin was born April 4, 1949 to Merlyn & Shirley Mundahl in Brookings SD.  He grew up in the Flandreau, SD and Pipestone, MN area.  He lived with his grandparents in Flandreau and attended Flandreau High School.  After high school, he worked with his grandfather and brother Danny doing labor jobs and other odd jobs around the Flandreau area.  Darwin enlisted in the Army in October 1967. He was trained to be a firefighter and Aircraft crash rescue.  After his training, he served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969.  He was honorably discharged after being injured.

          Darwin married Sharon Ward on October 30, 1981 in Sioux Falls SD.  They moved to Canton, SD where they raised their children and he spent 20 years working at Adams Thermal.  They moved to Worthing, SD in 2002 and in 2008 relocated to Sioux Falls, SD where he worked for Daktronics for 5 years before retiring.

          In his retirement he enjoyed golfing, working around the yard, riding his motorcycle, and playing with the grandkids.

          Darwin is survived by his wife, Sharon Mundahl;  his children Richard Mundahl, Brian Mundahl (Jesseca), Lisa Augustyn-Castro, Sharon Christensen (Jay), & Kristin Borg (Junior);   11 amazing grandchildren;  his siblings, Danny Mundahl (Patty), Kevin Mundahl (Rhonda), Diane Carstensen, Michelle Ward (Dan), Penny Trig, Jodi Norling (Terry), & Lori Ennen; along with numerous extended family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother, father, and a brother.

          In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the American Legion Riders.
