Darwin was the 8th of 11 children having 6 sisters and 4 brothers.  He attended school in Sheldon, ND.  After high school Darwin worked in Fargo doing odd jobs until he moved to Sioux Falls in 1970 when he began working at the Argus Leader in the circulation department.

Throughout the years Darwin worked for various companies such as the Vernon Company, many different car dealerships in the area as a car salesman, and 18 years as the school bus manager for Johnson Feed / ABC Bus.  In his retirement he drove bus part time for the Canton Transit.  Darwin loved to talk and meet new people.  He loved to tell his grandchildren stories of his growing up years in North Dakota and the antics he and his friends participated in.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years Lavonne; son Kirt and wife Kim (Canton); daughter-in-law Carol (Ramsey, MN); daughter Debra Anderson (Fargo);  son Dwight and wife Dodie (Morehead, MN); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother Jerome (Kim); 1 sister-in-law, Colleen; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Darwin always wore a smile on his face when he came to work at Canton Transit. He would enter the building with a “whoo hoop” and always had a story to share about life, family or great grands. He shared many smiles, laughs and hugs throughout his time working with me. His kind heart will be missed by many. May God wrap His loving arms around you during this difficult time as you grieve. Know that Darwin is in heaven watching those Twins.❤️

I worked with Darwin “Inky” Dahl at the Enderlin Independent newspaper when I was in high school and my family lived above the print shop. He taught me much about the printing trade that eventually led to my 50 year career in the printing industry. We had many laughs as we worked together.

I remember a family gathering in N.D. shortly after Darwin had reached the age to be considered a senior. This allowed him to receive a free DQ cone. Since neither Jerome or Darwin had lived in the area for some time, it took awhile to find the dairy queen. Lavonne, Jerome, and I sat in the car while Darwin sweet talked the staff, who had never heard of this free offer, into his free cone. The look of boyish joy as he returned to the car, his free cone gone in two bites, is something I will always remember when I think of Darwin. Jerome and I hope the many shared stories you will hear help to ease your loss.
