Darrell H. French

Visitation: Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Service: Funeral services will be at 1:30 Thursday, Sept. 29, at Canton United Methodist Church, followed by burial at the Worthing Cemetery.

After 88 wonderful years, Darrell French passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 with his family at his side at Sanford Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be at 1:30 Thursday, Sept. 29, at Canton United Methodist Church, followed by burial at the Worthing Cemetery. Darrell H. French was born July 2, 1923 on a farm near Worthing, SD, to Howard and Hazel (Raver) French.  He attended elementary school in Worthing and graduated from Canton High School in 1941.  Darrell then attended Nettleton Business College for a year.  In his younger years, Darrell loved to play softball with several area teams.
Darrell was united in marriage to Beulah M. Engen September 1, 1944.  They made their home on a farm west of Canton until present.  Darrell farmed his entire life.   He also worked as a carpenter and sold seed corn.
Darrel was a member of Canton United Methodist Church since 1944 and served his church in many capacities.   He served on District 23 school board and was a member of the Farmer’s Union and 4-H.  He and Beulah traveled extensively, going to all 50 states, including Canada and Mexico.  Besides enjoying carpentry and woodworking, he was an avid reader.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of  67 years, Beulah; his four children- Glenn French of Canton, SD, Darla (Roger) Cronn of Plymouth, MN, Marlys French of Sioux Falls, SD, and Sherrie French of East Dover, VT; two granddaughters, Shannon and Dana Cronn; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gaylon.
