Service: Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Burial will follow the service at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Fairview, SD.

Clarence L. Nelson, age 84, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Burial will follow the service at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Fairview, SD.  Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service. 
Clarence L. Nelson was born October 14, 1926 in Fairview, SD.  He attended school in Fairview, Winfred, and Canton, SD.  Clarence entered the Army in January 1945.  He was in the Corps of Engineers and was discharged in November 1946.  He married Marilyn Smith in 1953.  They lived in Sioux City, IA.  Clarence drove truck for Peavey Company for twenty-three years.  He moved to Sioux Falls and married Nila Merritt Smith in 1978. 
 Survivors include his wife, Nila;  granddaughters, Samantha (John) Burak and Sabrina Woody, all of Alaska;  two great-grandchildren; step-children, Sally Larson, Monticello, MN, Gary Smith, Breckenridge, CO, and Connie Nyenhuis, Sioux Falls, SD; ten step-grandchildren; eleven step great- grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Milligan, Sun City West, AZ; brother, Norman Nelson, Canton, SD; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by an infant brother;  twin daughters, Lorna Lee, who died at birth, and Lana Woody, who died in 1994; his parents; brothers, Adolph, Carl, and Louis; and sisters, Esther Davidson, Emma Kauspedas, Milda Austin, Sally Hill, and Rachel Mohn.
