Betty Jane (Memmer) Reierson, age 93, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19 at Grand Valley Lutheran Church, rural Canton, SD.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m., family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Betty was born on September 7, 1925 to Harry and Leona Ruttman in Freeport, IL.  She lived and worked at Burgress Factory in Freeport during her younger years.  She met and married Raymond L. Memmer in Freeport, IL on November 29, 1944 during the war.  They had two children, Mary Ann Bendush and Jimmy L. Memmer.  After the war, they lived in Cedarville, IL until moving to Sioux Falls, SD.  She worked several different jobs during their married life, including several years at Polar Cold Storage.  She lost her husband in 1976.

Betty stayed active at her church and at work.  Work is where she met Duane R. Reierson.  They were married on November 10, 1979 at Grand Valley Lutheran Church in Canton, SD.  The couple made their home in Canton.  She lost her husband in 2006.

Betty was known for the volunteer work she did throughout the years.  Some of these included: The Union Gospel Mission, The Gideon Aux., Love Inc., Meals on Wheels, and Milk Camp at Christmas time.  A memory we want to share with all is her love for the Lord and, of course, “playing cards”.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Bendush, Canton, SD; her son, Jimmy L. Memmer (Dorothy Blocker), Marshalltown, IA, 5 grandchildren, Joseph, Kari, Amber, James, Jon, and Billie; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Babcock, Freeport, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends and family, Glenn (Kay) Nelson, Lucille Stuckey, and Jerald (Cheryl) and Todd Lems.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, both husbands, 1 son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren.

My sincere sympathy for the loss of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Betty was one of a kind, and Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.
