Dear Susan, David, Lori, Jody and family,

I was sad to hear of Bernita’s death and am mourning her loss. But today I’m also remembering and celebrating her long and wonderful life. Bernita was a blessing to me and many others.

Bernita once called on the spur of the moment when she was in town for a bowling tournament and just wanted to chat. I remember meeting her for lunch when she was on a “road trip” with the girls. And I was especially honored when Bernita came up for my ordination.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

    God’s peace,
    Rev. William Dodd (“Billy”)

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30.

As a child my aunt, Bernita, passed through my life barely noticed. It was in her later years that I came to appreciate her love of life and her sense of humor. She is now truly my hero as I learn she was a bowling Champion. Bernita lived through so many losses and sorrows but still grabbed onto life and didn’t let go. She loved her children well and could laugh about those things I would have seen as burdens. Isn’t that living life Gracefully? With her passing, my world feels shaken, more empty. With the love and family she left behind the world is truly blessed. Thank you, Bernita.
