Barbara “Barb” Elcock

Visitation: Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

Service: Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Grand Valley Lutheran Church, Canton, SD.

      Barbara Joyce Elcock, age 71, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Dougherty Hospice House surrounded by her family.  Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Grand Valley Lutheran Church, Canton, SD.  Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

Barb was born on November 14, 1947 in Luverne, MN to Otto and Edith (Ross) Umland.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran in Luverne, MN.  After graduating from Magnolia High School, she attended Beauty College in Sioux Falls, SD.  She married Merrill Elcock on June 4th 1966.   The couple moved to Yuma, AZ for short time before moving back to South Dakota.   Five children were born to this union.

        In addition to raising her family, Barb worked at Sunshine in Tea for 11 years and Canton Food Center for 10 years.  She was a longtime member of Grand Valley Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed traveling with family, attending her grandchildren’s events, watching birds while relaxing on her deck, attending We Fest, and spending time with friends and family, especially her sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Keith.  She loved her church family and enjoyed helping with Milk’s Camp.

        Grateful for sharing her life are her 5 children, Scott (Sandy) Elcock and their children Payton, Preston, Paxton, and Jessie (Sean) Hanson; Shellene (Brian) Smidt and their children Isaiah, Austin, Bobby, Ryan, Kadin, Reese and Sierra; Sondra (Dave) Hladky and their children Samantha and Cody; Stephanie (Corrie) Alexander and their son Colt; and Suzette (James) Brandsrud and their children Alyssa, Addyson, and Dylan; sister, Audrey (Keith) Aanenson; brother-in-law, Morris (Lynne) Elcock; special cousin, Dawn Burden; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Grand Valley Building Fund or Dougherty Hospice House.
