Anna Lovaas

Visitation: Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Service: Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Canton Lutheran Church, with burial at the Canton Lutheran Cemetery near Canton.

Anna Lovaas, age 99, passed away Monday, April 4, 2011 at Canton Good Samaritan Society.  Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Canton Lutheran Church, with burial at the Canton Lutheran Cemetery near Canton.    Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Anna was born March 27, 1912 at Inwood, Iowa, to Nels and Sophia (Bjaastad) Josal.  She attended Lyon County Country School #5 through the 8th grade.  Anna was united in marriage to Elvin Lovaas December 24, 1931 at Inwood, where they made their home until 1940.  They moved to a farm near Canton where they actively farmed until 1968, when they moved to Canton.  Her husband died in 1976.   Anna has been a resident at the Canton Good Samaritan Center since 2002.
Anna was a member at Canton Lutheran Church since 1955, where she was active in circle, WELCA, and was a funeral and office volunteer.  She was also a member and volunteer at Canton Senior Citizen’s Center.  She was a typical hard working farm wife who was a great homemaker and baker, helped with chores, raised 6 children, and cooked wonderful meals for not only her family but also the farm hand and anyone else in need.  She also enjoyed canning and sewing.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who took great pride in her children and grandchildren.  Her grandchildren loved her very much. 
Grateful for having shared her life are her children- Lillian E. Jervik, Sioux Falls, SD, Alice E. Leimbach, Sioux Falls, SD, Sonja (Albert) Knorr, Canton, SD, Donald L. Lovaas, Walthill, NE, and David L. (Marge) Lovaas, Faribault, MN; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Victor Hamburg, Canton, SD; along with numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nila B. Hamburg; sister, Hilda Hoiland; two brothers, Olaf and Arthur; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
