Nelmar Crawford, age 93, died Friday, August 28, 2015 at Fellowship Village in Inwood, IA. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 1 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Fairview, SD. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.
Nelmar was born on October 19, 1921 in Minor County, SD to Milford & Lenora (Miller) Crawford. He attended country school and graduated from Canton High School in 1939. Nelmar served in the Army, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Doreen Orstad in 1946. She died in 1968. He married Maxine Peterson on December 21, 1971 in Luverne, MN.
Nelmar owned and operated Crawford Implement for many years. In his younger years, he enjoyed woodworking, dancing, playing cards, bowling, fishing, and hunting. He also ran for mayor of Canton.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Maxine; daughters, Lois (Chuck) Mullinix, Canton, SD, Rochelle (Terry) Helget, Tea, SD, and Sylvia (Jim) Stillman, Tea, SD; step-son, Dan (Dorothy) Peterson, Sioux Falls, SD; step-daughter, Sue (Richard) Nagelstad, Louisville, KY; sisters, Ila Torkelson, Canton, SD and Luella Huckfeldt, Spencer, IA; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; Doreen; son, Craig; and brothers, Melvin, Loren, and Everett.

Maxine and the family of Nelmer Crawford, sorry for your loss of your husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Will always remember him with the contact I had with him thru our business (Wallem Oil Co.) with his always friendly smile and great treatment as a person and customer.. He will be greatly missed. Again sorry, but it doesn’t seem like I am saying enough.
