Lorna Cornelius

Visitation: Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. It will resume with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Canton Lutheran Church.

Service: Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 30 at Canton Lutheran Church.

         lorna-corneliusLorna Cornelius, age 88, passed away on December  25, 2016 at Alcester Care and Rehab Center.  Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 30 at Canton Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.  It will resume with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Canton Lutheran Church.

          Lorna was born on November 7, 1928 in Worthing, SD to George and Matilda (Orstad) Abbas.  She attended grade school in Worthing before graduating from Lennox High School in 1946. She then attended beautician school. She married Donald Cornelius on November 3, 1953 in Lennox, SD.  The couple lived in Deadwood for a year before moving to Canton, SD in 1954.  Donald died in 1996.

          In addition to raising her family, Lorna enjoyed gardening, baking, flowers, knitting, and shopping from the Avon catalogue.  She cared for her parents in their later years and loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and WELCA.  She also enjoyed working at the Canton Public Library and babysitting for many years.

          Grateful for sharing her life are her daughters, Donna Toay and Laurie (Dave) Kroger; son, Jeff (Belinda) Cornelius, all of Canton, SD; sisters, Elaine Thacher, Albuquerque, NM, Joyce (Chuck) Swenson, Jasper, MN, and Janice (Bruce) Vaught, Bonne Terre, MO; grandchildren, Justin (Mandi) Sievers, Jessy (Mike) Johnson, Darren Kroger, Jason (Chandra) Kroger, Austin (Megan) Cornelius, and Devin (Samantha) Cornelius; step-grandchildren, Andrea (Owen) Haubert and Taun (Christine) Toay; great-grandchildren, Braedy, Madi, Sullivan, Knox, Berkley, Owen, Riley, Elora, and Danen; along with many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; sisters, Elvera Myrabo, Evelyn Sheldon, and Marlene Paulsmeyer; and brother, Clifford Abbas.
