Walter Jonnes, age 86, died Monday, December 14, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center.  Private family services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home, Canton, SD.   Visitation, with family present, will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home.  A link to the livestream of the service can be found at www.andersonandsonsfh.com.

          Walter was born on October 7, 1934 near Norway Center to Walter and Nora (Ekle) Jonnes.  He attended Moe School before serving his country in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean War.  He married Joyce Hersrud on March 1, 1953.  Walter farmed until 1968, worked at Morrell’s for 24 years, and at a cabinet shop in Harrisburg for 8 years.  After retiring, he worked a Randall’s in Sioux Falls.   Walter loved farming, tinkering, and working on cars.

          Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 67 years, Joyce; sons, Ray (Diane), Harrisburg, SD, Jim (Jackie) Quapaw, OK, and Donny, Harrisburg, SD; daughters, Lila McKinnon and Sheryl (Dan) Brown, all of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 grandchildren: Jessica, Melissa, Josh, Jennifer, Chuck, Sam, Isaac, Adam, Christina, Jeremey, Jaycey, and Journey; 8 great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wallace; and granddaughter, Chasidy.
