Visitation: Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service

Service: A Celebration of Steven’s Life will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Inwood, IA.

Steven L. Gries, 55, drifted peacefully off to meet his Lord and Savior from the comfort of his home in Canton, SD on Friday, July 26th, 2024. A Celebration of Steven’s Life will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Inwood, IA.  Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service.

He loved to tease and argue with the people he liked, was an avid gamer, and could be found visiting and playing cards at the senior center in Canton. This selfless man enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, rebuilding things, and sharing his knowledge with others. Steven was very devoted to Bible study and enjoyed attending fellowship groups at The River of Life Community Church, Celebrate Community Church, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Grateful for being allowed to share his life are his son Alexander Gries; sisters, Pamela McDonnell, Pennie Espeland, Sara Ekeren (Brian) & Trish Stansbury; parents, Steve and Charlotte Espeland; and countless other friends and family.  Steven was preceded in death by his birth father, David Gries and his faithful friend, Red.

Enjoyed picking Steve up for Bible Study. He always had a different perspective on things than I did and it and he really made me think about life. He will be missed.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss Steven so. Even though the visits were infrequent we always had something to talk about. Especially our pets.
    Rest easy nephew.

Steven was a wonderful person. He loved being with family and his good friends. He had a wealth of knowledge and loved digging and discussing the Bible.
He was a wonderful awesome and amazing friend we cherished the time we had with Steven. He will be missed by his family and friends. He may have been called to go home to early in our minds but God had a special service he needed Steven to do for him. We will miss him greatly but he will live in our hearts and memories forever.
