Service: Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. Burial will be at the Castlewood Cemetery, Castlewood, SD.

Shirley Ann Pettersen, age 80, formerly of Canton and Brookings, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011At Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston, SD.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.  Burial will be at the Castlewood Cemetery, Castlewood, SD.  Visitation with family present will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. 

  Shirley was born September 24, 1930 in Castlewood, SD to Leon and Shirley (Rounds) Calvert.  She grew up and attended school in Castlewood.
  Shirley was united in marriage to Paul M. Pettersen September 22, 1949 at Bismarck, ND.  They lived in Minneapolis, MN and Hot Springs, AK before moving to Brookings, SD in 1964.  She worked in a dental lab, for the Brookings Police Department, and various other jobs while in Brookings.  They moved to Canton in 1972 and lived in Worthington, MN for five years before returning in 1983.  Following her husband’s death in 2000, she moved to Parkston, SD to be near her daughter, Paulette.
  She is survived by her son, Robert of Rock Valley, IA; her daughter, Paulette Mangold, Parkston, SD; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters- Donna Greenfield, Twin Falls, ID and Geraldine (Lloyd) Verley, Canton, SD.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Jean and Wilva.
