Shawn Patrick Adams was born March 18, 1975 to Douglas ‘Pat’ Adams and Wendy Adams in Dell Rapids, SD. He grew up in Baltic, SD where he excelled in baseball with his younger brother, Greg, football, FFA, Tae Kwon Do, theater, and improv. His quick wit and humor started young, which entertained many friends and annoyed many teachers.

Shawn married Brandy Williams on July 23, 1994 at Lands Lutheran Church. After a few years of growing up together, they brought Natalie into the world, followed by Elisabeth (Ellie), and he adoringly referred to them as his ‘ghouls’. He loved seeing their talents in softball, tae kwon do, orchestra and band, and made sure they were exposed to every type of music, but especially Prince. Shawn loved to travel with his family and got to see Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon and many fun road trip destinations in between. When Justin joined the family, his heart was full knowing Justin was a natural at fitting in with the Adams and that Natalie would be well taken care of.

Shawn graduated from SDSU with a Poli Sci degree and a masters in Pub Admin. His career path, though, took him and the family to Kansas where Shawn managed thrift stores and lovingly referred to himself as the ‘The Used Underwear King of KC’.

Besides Shawn’s quick-witted sense of humor, his talent for making family meals was out of this world. We are all thankful for his culinary curiosity that broadened our palettes and made the kitchen a gathering place.

Most recently Shawn was an usher for the Kansas City Royals and loved being close to so many who shared his love of the game – even though he was raised a Cubs fan. Shawn could talk baseball with anyone and achieved some of his goal to see all of the stadiums and visit Cooperstown.

Above all else, Shawn adored being Grandpa Buddy. He found a way to watch his grandson full-time, and their park adventures, shopping sprees, and shared silliness is cherished by us all.

Shawn is survived by his wife, Brandy, daughter, Natalie (Justin) Jurgens and their sons, Jack Patrick and Johnny Witt, his daughter Ellie, parents Pat and Wendy Adams, brother Greg, niece Mia, in-laws Dean and Annie Aasheim and Dave and Donnell Williams, and so many aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom he has wonderful memories.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Lands Lutheran Church, Hudson, SD.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.  In honor of Shawn’s favorite color and sport, please wear a baseball jersey or the color purple to the service.

I only knew Shawn for a few years when he had started working for the Royals. He was such a great man and very hilarious. He could make anyone laugh and smile regardless of how you felt that day. He was the only coworker that I could talk to about Always Sunny in Philadelphia and we’d always reference some line from it at work and we’d always talk about the various skits on the Chappelle Show especially the Prince one. Shawn sure did know a lot about baseball and loved the game. He willl be missed dearly at the stadium not only for us but also his fans l. Shawn was a phenomenal person to be around and for sure could lighten the mood. I will miss him dearly! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family!

Shawn was our usher at the stadium . We have had the seats for more than 20 years so there have been a lot of ushers. He was among the best. You would be surprised how much we know about you all. He clearly loved his grandkids and was so excited about his expanding job. We will miss his diligent policing of our section and his loud singing in the seventh. Hugs.

I was so sorry of hearing of Shawn passing. You have my deepest condolences and prayers. Shawn was my district manager at Savers, he was strict but always had a good word for those that did their jobs. I always enjoyed running into him at the Royals game he never forgot my name.
