Scott Gackle, age 33, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019 near Sundance, WY as the result of an ATV accident. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 18 at Canton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5, family present 3-5 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. In lieu of flowers, an education fund has been established for Scott’s children at First Bank and Trust in Canton.
Scott was born on August 27th, 1986 in Hot Springs, SD to David and Susie (Miller) Gackle. He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 2005, where he excelled in sports. He attended USF and SDSU before serving his country in the Army National Guard. He married his best friend, Rachel Hohman, on May 26th 2013 at Custer State Park. To this union, Jasper, Griffin and Vada were born.
Scott, fondly referred to as “Scotty,” was as good as it gets. He was a hardworking & selfless husband, an attentive, fun & hands-on father, a thoughtful & protective son and brother, and a loyal friend. He is already greatly missed.
Scott was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially loved to take his twin boys, Jasper & Griffin (age 5) with him to explore the outdoors every chance he could. His baby girl, Vada (age 3), was the apple of his eye. He was looking forward to purchasing an ice fishing hut this winter so the whole family could fish together. Scotty never cared where he was or what he was doing as long as he was with his family and/or friends. He didn’t care if he spent the entire day untangling his children’s fishing lines – he was just happy to be there with his loves.
He was a talented craftsman who was always working on one of his wife’s various Pinterest projects. Scott dreamed of one day owning his own business doing custom home finishing and woodworking.
This is the short story of Scott’s life; but, there is so much more to his 33 years of life. He died just as he lived – partaking in one of his favorite hobbies at one of his “happy places.” Scott was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important – living an honest life with those he loved.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Rachel; sons, Griffin & Jasper; daughter, Vada, all of Canton; father, David (Nancy) Gackle, East Helena, MT; mother, Susan (Harlen) Henke, Streeter, ND; brother, Chad (fiancé Melissa) Gackle, Columbia, SD; sisters, Stacy (Josh) Otkin & Mara (Ryan) Koehler, all of Canton, SD; in-laws, Eric & Mona Hohman, Canton, SD; brother-in-law, Andy (Emily) Hohman, Sioux Falls, SD; along with numerous nieces, nephews extended relatives and friends. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Virgil (Louise) Miller & Eugene (Hazel) Gackle; uncle, Timothy Miller; and cousins, Brenda Miller & Christopher Miller.
