      Rose Winter, age 71, died Friday, February 16, 2024 at Bethany Home in Brandon, SD.  A visitation, with family present, will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.

      Rose was born on September 17, 1952 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Ruben and Rosa (Guerra) Chavira.  She grew up in Mexico before moving to the United States as a teenager.  She married Gary D. Winter on February 15, 1974 in Copperas Cove, TX.  The couple lived in TX until moving to Canton, SD in 1974 after Gary’s retirement from the military.

       In addition to raising her two boys, Rose earned a degree in Surgical Technology and Phlebotomy from Southeast Area Technical Institute.  Rose enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, watching Court TV, and playing Bunco.  She also loved reading and her dogs.

      Grateful for sharing her life are her sons, Jerry (Lisa) Winter and Gary (Ashlie) Winter; mother, Maria Ruiz Chavira; grandchildren, Nate (Jordyn) Winter, Wyatt (Courtney) Winter, Ellery Winter, and Kerrigan Winter; great-granddaughter, Lyncoln Winter; brothers, Lupe Chavira and Ruben Chavira, Jr.; and sisters, Lydia Ochoa and Martha Espino.
