Ronald DeSmet, 72, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, At Sanford USD Medical Center. Visitation will be Friday, July 25, from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Canton. Ron was born July 25, 1952 in Hawarden, IA, to parents- Donald and Emma (Miller) DeSmet. He attended school in Hudson, SD, graduating in 1970. He then attended trade schools in Sheldon, IA and Omaha, NE.
Ron and Barbara Andela were married August 6, 1973 and made their home in Canton. Ron worked for Marv’s Body Shop and later Peltier’s Body Shop for 47 years. He also had a side business Ron’s Classics from 1985 to 2024, when he retired due to health issues. He enjoyed camping, fishing, restoring old cars and his tractor.
Grateful for having shared his life are: two daughters, Shery (Chad) Hawley and Becky (Jason) Jeffers, all of Canton; four granddaughters- Samantha, Savannah, Jamie, and Adrianna; sisters- Mary (Hank) Brinkman, Canton and Ruthie ((Steven) Feeney, Watertown, SD; one brother, Raymond (Kathy), Surprise, AZ; and other extended family.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Barb (2006), his parents, Donald and Emma DeSmet, a brother, Leonard, and sister, Betty McNamara.
So sorry to hear of your loss. Ron was an awesome person and friend. We will miss him greatly. Rest in peace Ron. God be with you.

I’m so sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. My sincere sympathy to all of his family. He did all of my mechanic work for years. He was a great man and will be missed. RIP my friend.
Ron was my uncle, and a good one at that. Always a great guy and I thought the best of him. Gonna miss seeing him at family events. Just a regular guy who anyone would want as a friend. Family man first.
