Service: Services will be held at a later date.

Roger Alix Swenson was born September 26, 1936, near Vale, S.D. He wed Barbara Cundy on June 6, 1954, and the two of them enjoyed over 71 years of marriage. Along the way children David, Michael, Terri, and Joy were born. He left education working first for the Bureau of Land Management in Utah and later for the Department of Defense at Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City, SD. After retirement, he busied himself with helping to care for his grandchildren, as someone you could always call on if you needed help, volunteering at the local food bank, doing jail ministry, and as an indispensable and very active member of his church. Roger was a deeply devout Christian who lived his faith in everything he did.

Roger is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children David Swenson, Michael (Pam) Swenson, Terri (Robert) Ross, and Joy (Kevin) Johnson; their children Shannon, Valerie, Marya, Laura, Jeremy, Jared, Jennifer, John, Shasta, Chris, Kelly, Lance, Nathan, Jordan, and Bethany; and a multitude of great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Viola and Darlene, and by a brother, John. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Victoria, brothers Alan and Levern, and a sister, Dorothy.

Roger passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.  Services will be held at a later date.

Sorry for your loss. It was a great pleasure taking care of Roger. Roger was a loving, caring person, when I would go in and wake up Barb and get her ready for the day, we would walk out of the bathroom and I would tell Roger that it was time to get up, he would say not till 8am. Then Barb would tell him that it was time to get up and he would reply, yes Dear along with a I love you.
