Visitation: Visitation, with family present, will be Thursday, April 10 from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. 

Service: Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Canton, SD.

Phyllis Hammond, age 93, passed away peacefully Friday, April 4, 2025 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg, SD.  Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Canton, SD.  Visitation, with family present, will be Thursday, April 10 from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.  Memorials may directed to Redeemer Free Lutheran Church.

Phyllis was born on June 13, 1931 to Earl and Esther (Johnson) Boyum. She graduated from Inwood High School in 1950.  She married Russell Hammond on May 16, 1950 in Luverne, MN.  She enjoyed going dancing, listening to music, and going trucking with her husband.

          In addition to raising her children, Phyllis worked at Farmers State Bank for over 30 years.  Phyllis was a dire-hard MN Twins and New England Patriots fan and loved going to MLB games around the country with her son, Steve.  She was also an avid supporter of local sports and enjoyed bowling in her younger years.  Phyllis will be remembered for her great sense of humor.

          Phyllis is survived by her son, Steve; sister, Judy (Wayne) Groeneweg; family friend, Mike Hansen; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; son, Terry; infant brother, John Boyum; brother and sister-in-law, Earl (Evelyn) Boyum; and sister and brother-in-law, Joan (Ron) Johnson.
