Service: Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Canton Lutheran Church followed by burial at the SD Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Orville Amundson, age 97, died Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Lennox Assisted Living. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Canton Lutheran Church followed by burial at the SD Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Canton Lutheran Church.
Orville was born on September 6, 1926 in Yankton, SD to Clarence and Amanda (Hill) Amundson. He grew up and attended school in Yankton before joining the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Japan for many years and retired from the Army after 20 years of service. After retiring, he returned to Japan and later moved back to Yankton, where he worked for the South Dakota State Hospital for many years. He then moved to Canton, SD and was most recently living at Lennox Independent Living in Lennox, SD.
Orville enjoyed reading the bible, listening to music, walking, and while living in Canton, his moring coffee group at Colonial Village. He also treasured the friendships he made while living at Lennox Independent Living.
Orville is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews and his nursing home family in Lennox. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence and sister, Sophie.
